Welcome to the ISTPA, where professional Tennis and Padel coaching is offered under the leadership of Ivan Sequeira, who has over 30 years of coaching experience. Our venue is located at The Bryanston Country Club in the beautiful city of Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa.
Since 2016, our team has been dedicated to establishing Tennis at the Country Club through the BCC Tennis Academy. The Country Club entrusted Ivan, as the Tennis Director, to coach the Junior and Ladies Clinics for members, manage the Senior Men’s, Ladies, and Junior League Teams, introduce the Phoenix Tennis Trophy, oversee the Tennis Pavilion and Shop, and maintain the courts. He initiated a Committee, which has contributed to steady growth within the Tennis Section, resulting in many new members joining and actively participating in the sport. As of March 2023, the Academy has been rebranded as the ISTPA Ivan Sequeira Tennis and Padel Academy, while still promoting and supporting the vision for Tennis at the Country Club.
ISTPA has a vision for developing and producing outstanding padel and tennis players. With the lovely Highveld climate, coaching is available year-round. The Academy offers a variety of lessons suitable for all ages and skill levels, from complete beginners to experienced players.
ISTPA caters to individual game development while also providing the opportunity to be part of a broader training group, further enhancing skills in either discipline.
A brief background on Ivan:
Ivan is currently the Director of ISTPA and became a qualified Professional Coach with TSA in 1995 and in 2022 qualified as a Head Coach for PadelMBA. He achieved Distinction in the TSA Sports Science 2 and has facilitated coaching courses for other coaches. Ivan is committed to player development in South Africa for the past three decades. He began coaching in the southern part of Johannesburg with the Southern Sports Academy (Sequeira Sports), fostering tennis at the grassroots level in local schools. His passion for coaching has led several players to receive sponsorships from overseas universities.
His experience has been shaped by working alongside great coaches and academies, including Kobus Botha and Theuns Van Rensburg at the Menlo Park Tennis Academy as well as with Jean De Lange at the Kinetik Tennis Academy. Additionally, Ivan has been involved in coaching programs at local School levels namely, Parktown Girls’ High and Parktown Boys’ High, for over eight years.
He stays updated on leading coaching techniques by attending ITF International Tennis Federation Coaches Conferences, living by the motto, “Become your best!”
Ivan has served on the Central Gauteng Coaches Committee for several years, as well as on club-level committees, and he is passionate about seeing tennis grow in South Africa. He has a unique ability to assess players’ levels and advance them to the next level, regardless of age or experience, bringing out their best potential. He is well-known for his excellent people skills, coaching ethics, discipline, and enthusiasm for the sport. He will design the right program for you to achieve your sports goals, drawing on his extensive coaching experience and updated international coaching standards.
